IMVU
Adapting Existing Economies
for Added Revenue
THE SCOOP
IMVU is a social network and entertainment site popular in the United States and the U.K. that hosts over 14 million active monthly users. The primary focus of IMVU is to provide a platform to users who wish to develop and sell their own virtual products. The site allows users to build and customize their own avatars and webpages with these products, creating a unique marketplace experience not found in other social networks. Although the majority of the site’s revenue is generated through the sale of virtual goods, social games were seen as a clear opportunity to expand the site’s engagement and monetization. IMVU and Viximo partnered to turn this opportunity into reality.
THE PROCESS
Because IMVU already had a virtual currency built around the its marketplace, Viximo created a custom social gaming platform that could easily integrate with their existing economy. This flexible setup allowed IMVU users to engage in social gaming without having to adopt a new currency or maintain separate accounts. The decision was well-received, and since their inception social games on IMVU have become a growing source of revenue.
THE REWARDS
Viximo currently manages eight social games on IMVU, all of which have become very strong revenue producers. Not only has Viximo helped to increase IMVU’s revenue, but traffic to the site has increased since launching social games. Even better, games on Viximo’s distribution platform have a daily average revenue per user (DARPU) of over three times that of Facebook.
